Keith O'Brien, Cardinal of Sin?

Details of the Vatican Homosexual Scandal are breaking faster than New Year's resolutions the past few days.

Allegedly, Cardinal O'Brien, put the moves on some hunky young seminarians. It all came out, along with much more, in a big honking red-bound report now stowed away in the Pope's private safe, whose combination may be soon forgotten. He has instantly resigned and won't be sending up any white smoke in the coming conclave, but can he really disappear in a puff of black smoke?

For us on this side of the Atlantic, let us take a fond look back. It was only a year ago when the Telegraph printed him thusly as he spake against gay marriage in his very own op-ed, placidly entitled "We Cannot Afford to Indulge This Madness":

... Will both teacher and pupils simply become the next victims of the tyranny of tolerance, heretics, whose dissent from state-imposed orthodoxy must be crushed at all costs

In Article 16 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, marriage is defined as a relationship between men and women. But when our politicians suggest jettisoning the established understanding of marriage and subverting its meaning they aren’t derided.

Instead, their attempt to redefine reality is given a polite hearing, their madness is indulged. Their proposal represents a grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right.

So, it's the gay people doing the repressing, eh? Gay folks like you, Cardinal? Hypocrisy doesn't begin to describe this man's blather about "the children, the children!" and all the other usual nonsense. He pens this in his closet while he sexually harasses his subordinates.

The man's more bent than a psychic's spoon.

UPDATE, March 3, 2013: Cardinal O'Brien's revolting non-apology apology.

"However, I wish to take this opportunity to admit that there have been times that my sexual conduct has fallen below the standards expected of me as a priest, archbishop and cardinal.
"To those I have offended, I apologise and ask forgiveness. To the Catholic Church and people of Scotland, I also apologise.
"I will now spend the rest of my life in retirement. I will play no further part in the public life of the Catholic Church in Scotland."

What's this "to those I have offended" BS?  Meaning anyone reading the news? I guess it applies not specifically to the guys he put the moves on, apparently, but just to anyone out there even slightly disgusted by the actions of this creep. That would be, I don't know, any non-sociopaths out there. Predictable from the "moral leaders" of our era, I guess, but still revolting.

THY NEIGHBOR'S ASS

I've NEVER, EVER seen the Ten Commandments posted in front of ANY church in my life.

I found a story of an attempt made quite some distance from the church, in New Jersey no less. Not the Bible Belt exactly, and they got them wrong! (There's an extra-points bonus error that the author of this amusing tale missed.) A search around brings up a smattering of these monuments actually in front of churches!

The above is an example of the standard boilerplate black granite, again being unveiled in front of some unsuspecting court house. I think there's a factory, since the blocks of rock all look the same. Note that the Tenth Commandment is shrunk down into, "Thou shalt not covet." This is clearly a big error, and a bearing of false witness in and of itself.

I thought that coveting is what makes people buy shiny new cars. Coveting is the very basis for the advertising industry. Good conservatives believe in coveting as a supreme value, above almost all others. Greed is God in Ayn Rand's world. Knock over those old ladies and grab that brass ring.

So, why do fundamentalist Christians INSIST these slabs be placed in front of court houses? Why not just slap them up on their own grounds, facing outward? Perhaps because that could be bad for business, especially that tiny one about adultery. Without breaking that Commandment, no soap opera would exist. What? The members might get a little squirmy if they had to walk past that holy suggestion every Sunday? Not possible!

The good Christians here have gone out of their way to avoid all that "thy neighbor's ass" wording, which might make 13-year-olds shriek in hysterics. The link above lists a number of translations, only one of which substitutes "donkey" for ass. Donkey? Guffaw.

But no, these people haven't even taken that coy approach, coveting is coveting and they don't like it. Covet a seashell you see all gleaming and pink down the beach, which is free and owned by no one? Stop it this instant. Drop that seashell and run from the wrath of Yahweh.

Watch, if you can stomach the poison that's been given this innocent child. "Ain't no homos gonna go to heaven," gets them jumping to their feet and cheering.

Here you have it, a full-on demonstration of why the national far-right crowd opposes anti-bullying laws. They want kids to grow up to be a member of the anti-gay hate patrol, to spew epithets, and possibly to inflict harm verbally, maybe even physically. It's "just kids," after all, isn't it?

You could call it child abuse, but it's so widespread that it just seems part of the air we breathe. Hatred does not come from the air, though, it comes from aping the unevolved apes like the big ones dressed up in these pews.

Romney PAC: 10K to NOM

Ah, yes, thanks to HRC for getting the goods:

Financial documents obtained by HRC reveal that Mitt Romney donated $10,000 to the National Organization for Marriage in 2008 ...

Romney's group was something called the Free and Strong America PAC. Not the Subdued and Wimpy America PAC, mind you.

In sudden high-alert defense mode, the Romney campaign shot back:

“Gov. Romney believes marriage is an institution between a man and a woman and his PAC made a donation to a group supporting that view,” campaign spokesman Andrea Saul said Friday. - Washington Post

What timing, just as NOM's divide-and-conquer African-American-and-Hispanic-people-vs.-gays strategy is revealed:

“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…”

Another passage:

"The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity - a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation."

I would like Romney to open his mouth, yet again, and speak from the heart regarding this news of the week. It's another episode in the Perils of Mitt. How will he escape the quicksand pit? Did he know about this strategy, which NOM was apparently cooking up at about the same time? Who were his or his PAC's contacts in the group? Will he offer details about the dates and times of their meetings and conversations?

Tennessee's Anti-abortion Scarlet Letter Bill ... Is It Real?

Maybe, maybe not.

The Life Defense Act of 2012 ... would direct the state Health Department to post on its website a report on every abortion, to be filled out by the facility where the procedure takes place.

The reports must include the "identification of the physician who performed the abortion and the physician's office, clinic, hospital or other facility where the abortion was performed," according to the official summary of the bill.

Then the L.A. Times explains that the reporting will include a woman's age, county, marital status, and so on, making it much easier to identify the person, especially in less populated areas.

So, I'd say, yeah, you can call it the Scarlet Letter Bill of 2012.

Please note, every title of everything this year must be appended with the numeral year date, 2012, in case anyone might forget what year it is. Thank you.

David Brooks: ORIGINAL SIN to blame for Afghan Massacre?

I wish Brooks would just come out and say, "I blame original sin," but he doesn't. The mind reels, trying to figure out what exactly he is saying. In sum, nothing. He fails to say what he thinks, and just maunders on about the age-old question: "Humans, good or evil?"

Pundits like him? I'll let you guess which of evil or good I'd class him in. He always slithers away from a conclusion, following another actor in the original original-sin myth.

The disturbing part of his nonsense is its function as smokescreen. Well, perhaps it was The Devil... Yes, el diablo himself, horns and all.

Geez, could you just shut your backward, Medieval, if not evil, thoughts off for a second and not throw out a defense not allowed in court for 500 years. Of course, back then, in those same good ol' days, that defense would get you hanged as a witch.

This is the conservatives' brightest bulb on the marquee? Or is he second, after Newt?

Anti-porn campaigns are the fall-back witch hunts of conservatives. Little Ricky is raving like a lunatic, again.

Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier. Rick Santorum believes that federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced.  “If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so.”

The Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws. While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration. 

I guess everyone in the Obama Admin went blind from watching porn in hotel rooms.

Methinks Little Ricky is "vigorously" doing something with his left hand.

He goes on to praise the work of a number of homophobic, anti-women groups (yes, the usual suspects) who will scourge the scourge, I guess.

Jason Russell Vandalizes Cars While Whacking It

If the man can vandalize cars while whacking it, I have to give him credit. But the CHILDREN, THINK OF THE CHILDREN. Seeing all this car rape in broad daylight. I guess he can call his next group Visible to the Children.

TMZ has the nsfw goods, and I wouldn't mind seeing the longer, perhaps even uncut version. (Caution, full backal nudity, with maybe something else showing, as he flails his palms upon the sidewalk. Is that his arm or ..?)

Invisible Children's statement contained this howler: "...we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.''

Meanwhile, accusations of ties to far-Christianist-right extremists (yes, even connected to the Ugandan Kill the Gays bill) are dogging Invisible Children currently. The gist is that the group seems to ignore the Ugandan Government's history of crimes, which are of the same stomach-churning ilk.

So, have we been duped? Or has someone with a good heart and good intentions been used as a propaganda front man? Or none of the above, but while you're at it, kill the gays? Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Washington State Legislature Passes Gay Marriage Bill

Some better news.

Gay marriage will be signed into law by the governor of the state.

The earth-shattering result? More people will get married.

Meanwhile Little Ricky is in a lather over those hateful bigoted leftists who want gay people to marry. He calls it "a religion unto itself."

The NY Times:

He went on to attack Democrats, for what he called their “intolerance” of people of faith, saying their “assault” was a “religion unto itself, like atheists in the Soviet Union.”

Of course, the Gray Lady is wrong. He was attacking the "Left" as witnessed in this Reuters video.

Great. We've got it. The Religion of the Left. That means anyone progressive finally gets religious freedom under the Bill of Rights, right?

I don't think that's what he's after, but that's what you're getting. Now I have to figure out my outfit as official High Priest. Then there's the choice of shoes, incense, symbols, music... Endless possibilities!
